The shooting academy at the Johri village of Baghpat is close to two decades old. It is a hub and hotbed for budding shooters to learn the skills of the trade and display their skills at the national level. Young girls, who are 7 to 8 years old join the academy and through a disciplined and ordained routine garner the requisite physical fitness to go on and become accomplished shooters. It is also a community binding center as girls from all across, including neighbouring villages, come over to learn. There are celebrations on special occasions like Women's Day and other days that hold importance for the morale boosting of the girls of the academy, with a special guest of honor who graces the occasion.
